Baby Books we LOVE

A short list of books about Babies/ being Pregnant that I've enjoyed reading or found super helpful and sometimes both!

This book is written by Pamela Druckerman about her experience being pregnant, giving birth, and raising her daughter in Paris. At the beginning I liked all the talk about behind calm during pregnancy, because along with her I feel like the motto for American Moms is "worry, fret, worry some more". After her daughter is born chapters follow logically, breastfeeding, getting your baby to sleep, and daycare. The thing I like most about this book is she always includes what current research says about what she's learning from French culture. To me it seems like the French got raising kids right. I want mine to be independent, good eaters, who are thoughtful and enjoy other kids.

The next book is a classic. It gives you a week by week run down of what's happening inside of you to your baby. It's very informational, but can easily make you paranoid if you're the kind of person who already worries alot. So I like this book, but I keep it around for reference mostly and try not to fret about everything.

A more scientific approach to pregnancy than "What to Expect", but has a lot of information. I am mostly using this book for the chapters on birth, because again it's more scientific/medical than the last book.

I haven't read this book yet, waiting till the last two months once I stop working to read this, but have heard great things. It's an approach in the middle of forced schedule and attachment parenting. Once I'm done I'll definitely let you know what I think about it, and then how it works once our baby is here.

This book is for once she starts eating food, I want to start early with feeding her a variety of healthy foods. I didn't eat well when I was young, so I had to teach myself how and I would like to do this for our kids so eating well comes naturally. If the back cover is any indication of this book I'm going to love it.  It has a list of 10 food rules:

1. Parents are in charge of food education
2. Avoid emotional eating - No food rewards, bribes, etc.
3. Parents schedule meals & menus.
4. Eat family meals together.
5. Eat your veggies.
6. You don't have to like it, but you have to taste it.
7. No snacking. It's ok to feel hungry between meals.
8. Slow food is happy food. Eat Slow!
9. Eat mostly REAL food.
10. Remember eating is joyful.

Do you have any other suggestions for me? I'm into natural birth, and a natural parenting.

  1. "Great with Child by Beth Ann Fennelly. When I shared with friends that I was pregnant, I was sent this book as a gift (thank you, Sara!) and immediately read it cover to cover. I laughed, I cried, I LOVED it. Truly the only book I would recommend to a new (or experienced!) mother. It's a gift I'll be giving newly pregnant friends for the rest of my life. Love that it celebrates pregnancy and motherhood in an honest but uplifting way." -elise blaha cripe
